Patek Philippe Nautilus: From the 3700 to the 5711/1A

The first steel model of the Nautilus, reference 3700, was introduced in 1976 and nicknamed "Jumbo" due to its substantial dimensions—42 mm in length. Over time, many variants followed, including models designed specifically for women.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus, Patek Philippe introduced the reference 5711/1A in 2006. This modern icon pays homage to the original 3700 but includes several key updates and enhancements.

Key Differences Between the 3700 and the 5711/1A:

• Case Size: Increased from 42 mm to 43 mm

• Dial Color: A lighter, more modern blue

• Grooves: Slightly wider horizontal grooves for a bolder aesthetic

• Lume: Replaced Tritium with SuperLuminova for better visibility in the dark

• Second Hand: The 5711/1A includes a central seconds hand, which the 3700 lacked

• Movement: Upgraded to the Caliber 324 SC, a modern self-winding movement

• Logo: Updated font and positioning of the Patek Philippe logo (higher on the dial)

• Power Reserve: Improved from 35 hours to 45 hours
